HEART GIVES UNTO HEART
Faced with the probability that the secular press will be totally negative in its coverage of Pope Benedict’s forthcoming visit. From Tuesday 14th September to Monday 20th September, 7am to midnight every day, a special radio station will broadcast daily Mass, talks, and give coverage and commentary of the Holy Father’s visit, via: Internet radio: www.heartgivesuntoheart.co.uk

YOUNG CATHOLIC ADULTS (‘JUVENTUTEM’)

Sat.11th Sept.11am: Holy Mass in Traditional Rite (Choir: the Ensemble 1685 Singers) in the Abbey Church at Douai, followed by a Procession (c.12noon) in honour of Our Blessed Lady, around the Abbey grounds. All ages/parishes/Church groups are welcome to participate in Mass & the Procession.

The Conference will be led by Fr.A.de Malleray FSSP, head of the international Juventutem Federation.

Please take one of the special SPUC leaflets in the Church Porch, making us aware of the campaign to advertise abortion facilities on TV and find the courage to write to the Secretary of State for Culture (address on the leaflet) to ask him to stop such adverts. Defend human life !

BLESSED MOTHER TERESA OF CALCUTTA
A celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Blessed Teresa will be held at St.Illtyd’s Catholic Church, Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil, at 7pm on Thursday 26th August. The celebrant at Holy Mass will be Abbot Paul of Belmont Abbey. All OLSM parishioners are invited to participate. Refreshments will follow Mass, in the parish’s ‘Father Carroll Centre’.

GUIDED TOURS AT BELMONT
On 28th August, between 2pm and 5pm, guided tours of Belmont Abbey will take place.

SAINT DAVID LEWIS PILGRIMAGE
The annual Pilgrimage to Usk, the grave of our Parish Martyr, St.David Lewis SJ, will take place on Sunday 29th August. Mass 3pm, procession to the grave 4pm. This year marks the 331st anniversary of his martyrdom in 1679.

GREGORIAN CHANT DAYSCHOOL
Nick Gale, Director of Music at Southwark RC Cathedral, will lead a Study Day for all interested in learning some of the ancient and beautiful Plainchant melodies of the Catholic Liturgy. This will be of immense interest to Clergy, Religious, and Parish Choirs, all intent upon celebrating the Sacred Liturgy worthily and well, ‘according to the mind of the Church’ . This summer, Nick leads similar days at the Cathedrals of Shrewsbury, Lancaster and Brentwood.

Tea & Coffee provided. Bring sandwiches.

VATICAN TWO -
The Council stated clearly that Plainchant is the official music of the Catholic Church, and that steps were to be taken to ensure that the people of God know these ancient melodies which we use in our worship.
"the faithful should be able to sing the ordinary parts of the Mass in Latin" (see Sacrosanctum Concilium, the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, no. 54).

THE ST. JOHN’S BIBLE
In 1988 the Benedictine monks of St.John’s Abbey, Minnesota USA, commissioned the first hand-written illuminated Bible for over 500 years, in order to mark the Millennium. An exhibition of prints of this mammoth work on vellum, takes place 14th August to 26th September at the Monnow Valley Arts Centre. (take the A465 to Pandy, turn left in the direction of Longtown. At Clodock Church turn right. The Centre is one mile along the lane on the right, clearly marked) Also, an exhibition of carved lettering by Tom Perkins and Calligraphy by Gaynor Goffe.

ABERGAVENNY FOOD FESTIVAL 2010,

Top chefs & restaurateurs from across Wales cook their signature dishes, offer samples of their food and tell inside stories from the restaurant trade. Hosted by broadcaster & food-writer Simon Wright, Mike Morgan of Llansantffraed Court Hotel, and Nerys Howell, author of ‘Wales on a Plate’.

2pm to 3pm TYDDYN LLAN: Bryan & Sue Webb’s Georgian Country House Hotel in Denbighshire, adds a Michelin Star this year, to their Good Food Guide readers’ award for the Best in Wales, and the True Taste award for Best in North Wales.

Looking ahead a little…parishioners please note that there’ll be NO tea after 10am Mass on Sunday 22nd August.
The Cycling time trials are taking place that day, and participants will park their cars on our field,
and will be using St. Michael’s Centre.

Diary Date: on Wednesday 15th September we’ll celebrate the 150th birthday of our beautiful Church, with Benediction at 7pm, followed by Gala Dinner (Black Tie) at 7.30pm. Places limited. Sign up in the Church Porch to book your place: 3 course meal & wine & Bar. First come, first served. £35

This will also be a celebration to mark the visit of the Successor of Peter to our island: Pope Benedict arrives in the UK the next day !

Papal Visit to Great Britain
Some details of the Holy Father’s visit to the UK have been published: he comes 16th-19th September, will meet the Queen in Scotland at Holy-rood Palace, and will declare Card Newman ‘Blessed’ at a special Mass in Croften Park near Coventry.

As the theme for his forthcoming visit to the UK, Pope Benedict has chosen the motto of Cardinal Newman, who will be declared ‘Blessed’ during the visit. The motto, ‘Cor ad Cor loquitur’ means ‘Heart speaks to heart’.

As yet we have not received any details about the possibility of a bus from our Deanery to attend this Mass….information will be posted in the Bulletin as soon as it is received.
