SICK/HOUSEBOUND ?
The Legion of Mary would be happy to visit parishioners at home. If you know any who’d welcome a call, please see Fr. T.

Everyone involved in the active life of the Church needs to be rooted in prayer. Whether Choir, Servers, Cleaners, Florists, etc., or whatever, membership of ‘The Legion’ provides a focus for prayer and some formation. Archbishop Fulton Sheen, whose Cause for Canonisation is proceeding, said this :-
“You are the only organisation in the world today that ever anticipated the Vatican Council. The only one! You just go through your works and see how far ahead you are of the Council and with the Church. You are Pre-Council, Pro-Council, and Post Council’ ‘Pray often to the Holy Spirit that your zeal will spread and that others will have the courage to do it. I consider it an honour, really an honour, to be in the midst of you.”

There are many good associations of Catholics. The Legion does not seek to replace them… but its presence in the Parish would provide a further opportunity for growth in holiness….

WHAT IS THE LEGION OF MARY?
The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organisation of lay people in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million active members in almost every country. It has been approved and encouraged by six Popes and was endorsed by the Vatican Council. The main purpose of the Legion is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members.

WHAT DOES IT DO?
Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced programme of prayer and service,
putting Catholic Faith into action in answer to various needs and initiatives. In this, the Legion is
an extension of the apostolate of the priest in the Parish.

WHO CAN BELONG?
The Legion is open to all Catholics who
*faithfully practice their religion.
*are animated by the desire to participate in the Church’s apostolate
*are prepared to fulfil each and every duty.
*those who by reason of age or ill-health are unable to undertake active ministry participate by
supporting the Legion through their prayers.

Confer O Lord on us, who serve beneath the standard of Mary, that fullness of faith in Thee and
trust in her, to which it is given to conquer the world. Grant us a lively faith, animated by charity,
which will enable us to perform all our actions from the motive of pure love of Thee, and ever to
see Thee and serve Thee in our neighbour; a faith, firm and immovable as a rock, through which
we shall rest tranquil and steadfast amidst the crosses, toils, and disappointments of life; a
courageous faith which will inspire us to undertake and carry out without hesitation great things
for Thy glory and for the salvation of souls; a faith which will be our Legion’s pillar of fire -to lead
us forth united- to kindle everywhere the fires of Divine Love – to enlighten those who are in darkness
and in the shadow of death- to inflame those who are lukewarm- to bring back life to those who are dead
in sin; and which will guide our own feet in the way of peace; so that
the battle of life over - our Legion may reassemble, without the loss of anyone, in the Kingdom of
Thy love and glory. Amen.
