Nick Gale, Director of Music at Southwark RC Cathedral, will lead a Study Day for all interested in learning some of the ancient and beautiful Plainchant melodies of the Catholic Liturgy. This will be of immense interest to anyone intent upon celebrating the Sacred Liturgy worthily and well, ‘according to the mind of the Church’ . This summer, Nick leads similar days at the Cathedrals of Shrewsbury, Lancaster and Brentwood.

In 1988 the Benedictine monks of St.John’s Abbey, Minnesota USA, commissioned the first hand-written illuminated Bible for over 500 years, in order to mark the Millennium. An exhibition of prints of this mammoth work on vellum, takes place 14th August to 26th September at the Monnow Valley Arts Centre. (take the A465 to Pandy, turn left in the direction of Longtown. At Clodock Church turn right. The Centre is one mile along the lane on the right, clearly marked) Also, an exhibition of carved lettering by Tom Perkins and Calligraphy by Gaynor Goffe.
This year we mark 150 years since the celebration of the First Mass in this Church (building began in 1858, and was completed in 1860) of Our Lady & St. Michael.

(Abbey Dore was once a Cistercian Abbey. The present Church comprises the Quire & Transepts of the monastic Church closed at the Reformation.)
